- Achieve a recognized presence and focal point for international affairs at the university and beyond
- Assist in developing academic courses, certifications, and degree programs qualifying students for international careers
- Support and expand existing NMSU efforts providing international experiences to students and faculty
- Perform critical sponsored research and projects that increase the knowledge base; enhance business development and trade; lead to peer-reviewed publications and scholarly presentations; yield solutions to pressing international issues; and create the foundation and stimulus for advocating needed change
- Provide outreach and services to local, state, national, and international organizations
- Encourage and support citizen and community involvement in global issues, including partnerships with business and government
